Professor Schmuckeye is just that damned clueless. And then half of our country stands around scratching their heads wondering what happened to our educational system. I've got some idea.

I ran across this. I never saw it last time. I have to say that the imbeciles at SLSF are the biggest bunch of sissies I've encountered in cyberspace. And, I've seen plenty. I mean... Harry "misusing the post-reporting feature" George Orwell would be proud. And, those morons should be ashamed. Yet, somehow, I'm sure it's my fault.

"jimmcg" is one of the moderators at SLSF and a very good friend. While he strongly favors "civilized" discussions, he's not as likely to fly off the handle as some others there (or here).
There are a lot of other "good folk" at SLSF, but they're drifting away or following the Cards more by Twitter. More's the shame.

Do you not see, first, that — as a mental abstract — physical force is directly opposed to morality; and, secondly, that it practically drives out of existence the moral forces? How can an act done under compulsion have any moral element in it, seeing that what is moral is the free act of an intelligent being? If you tie a man's hands there is nothing moral about his not committing murder. Such an abstaining from murder is a mechanical act; and just the same in kind, though less in degree, are the acts which men are compelled to do under penalties imposed upon them by their fellow men. Those who would drive their fellow men into the performance of any good actions do not see that the very elements of morality — the free act following on the free choice — are as much absent in those upon whom they practice their legislation as in a flock of sheep penned in by hurdles. — Auberon Herbert |

That's a good example of the grammatical errors which Twitter & other texting media are encouraging in public discussions.

I believe in clear and concise communications. Sometimes the former criteria gets in the way of the latter.

SLSF now has more mods than active members.

Actively posting members, yes. However, a lot of people still visit there. As of right now, SLSF is reporting "There are currently 85 users online. 27 members and 58 guests" while BOTB is only reporting 12 users online, 6 members and 6 guests. However, there are more members posting here at BOTB than at SLSF.
Of course, the reporting software could be rigged, but I doubt it. Both sites are languishing, for the reason you pointed out in another thread. Fans have moved over to social media like Facebook and Twitter to gossip about their teams.

I think I still count as one of the younger generation, though my wife may beg to differ.
I use Twitter in a sports capacity mostly to keep up on headlines and breaking news. During games, about all I consider it good for is the occasional off-the-cuff comment from a reporter or columnist or maybe an injury update that didn't come through official channels. If somebody feels the need to live-Tweet a game, I won't follow them. I don't discuss much sports-related stuff on their either--it's pretty much one-way. During the games nothing tops the forum discussions for me. Moderately-controlled audience (minimal peanut gallery input) and the ability to give topics the breadth and depth of discussing they deserve are invaluable. The reason I don't post much during the games is simply that I don't get to watch most of them. I do make it a point to pop in when we're on ESPN or MLBN, though.
