Carpenter gets a day off 20170603

I'm not sure that Martinez is a better defender, but he might be the better hitter right now.

    1. Dexter Fowler, CF

    2. Tommy Pham, LF
    3. Stephen Piscotty, RF
    4. Jose Martinez, 1B
    5. Yadier Molina, C
    6. Jhonny Peralta, 3B
    7. Paul DeJong, 2B
    8. Aledmys Diaz, SS
    9. Mike Leake, P

Diaz in the 8 hole. Good. He's going to get even less to hit down there, so maybe he'll take some walks. (That's REALLY going out on a limb)

2 on nobody out in the first and your 3 hole hitter squares to bunt on every pitch??

    WTF?

At least he got a walk thanks to Lester and some bad ump calls.

Incredible. Even when the count went to 2-0 he was still looking to bunt. It's why I hate this team.

They better score 10 this inning because we know they won't score for the next 8.

OK two first inning runs, time to shut down the offense and get taken out in the 8th inning again.

and now the 5 hole hitter is bunting with nobody out and 2 on.

Mike would be a hell of a little league manager.

Yep. That's it for the day. Why is Jhonny Peralta still on this team?

Honestly if Bryant takes that around the horn I think Molina beats the throw to first by maybe half a step, they could have turned 3 on that.

With Peralta coming up, they just wanted to take the sure DP.....and let Peralta make the 3rd out.

This lineup is embarrassing with Gyroko in it.

Without Gyroko? I'd rather have Memphis.

Fellas...this is the one pitcher that we SHOULD be bunting against. I don't know why everyone doesn't do it. If Yadi had just gotten one down right back to Lester, we probably would have scored 3 or 4.

You think our baserunners know where first is? How many outs would they run into with two men on and a bunt laid down. Piscotty would have bunted it right to Bryant and then the base running hilarity would ensue.

1st and 2nd no one out. Now two out. They won't score.

Great approach from Diaz, fastball high and tight lined up the middle. Finally!

What is Maddon bitching about now? Jesus.

Should let Leake swing away. We need the offense he provides.

A predictable zero in the second. This 2-0 lead feels like we're down 6-2 right now.

Lester you lucky SOB. That scores a run if it gets past him, possibly two if it gets through.

That's just terrible...and typical. We will threaten to score in a couple more innings, but likely won't push any more across. Leaks better be sharp.

Which is why we should keep bunting. Keep the pressure on him.

Your strategy assumes the team can actually bunt well. I would say they get to two strikes immediately.

Jesus Christ this team is bad. What a mistake trying to watch a game. A hit!? Give me a break.

It's a loss. I'm going for a bike ride and maybe I'll be surprised in a couple hours.

Well...I don't expect them to power their way to 5 or 6 runs off Lester, either. You're up against a great pitcher that has a glaring weakness...he is incapable of Fielding his position. Attack that weakness.

This team reminds me of a football team that keeps kicking field goals and can't score I'm betting we lose again today.

Look at Diaz taking close pitches. Maybe he just needs to hit 8th. Hit damn near .500 there last year. Another good at bat.

What the hell is Peralta doi...nevermind. Who cares.

I'd rather do that and just keep DeJong around. At least he's somewhat athletic. Amazing that Greg Garcia can't even crack THIS lineup.

There is NO Gump lineup that Greg Garcia can crack.

    He's "infield insurance"

Peralta has no business on this roster anymore. Moe should have just ripped off the bandaid and jettisoned him at the same time he released Broxton.

Want to take a bet on which reliever blows it today? I'm going with Oh blowing in the 8th after two runners get on and Mike panics.

Nah...let's just continue to flail away at Lester. That's working great. Matheny is the dumbest goddamn manager I've ever seen.

I'm not even mad at Pham there. If Lester throws that away, he's on third. If Lester goes home, he's on second. You have to keep that pressure on him, even if it costs a couple of outs along the way.

    Another scoreless 6 innings...

They just stop playing after 3 innings.
