Here comes a winning streak!
Wainwright just hit a pretty nasty curveball over the left field bullpen.

Wainwright better win a damn silver slugger this year. He was robbed last year.

Leaving runners at second and third with nobody out and did not get squat is a bad omen

Wainwright is officially in the 'battle-hardened bulldog' phase of his career.
He's thrown 5 innings and to look at the line score, he's cruising. But it's taken him 90 pitches to get there because he just can't get an easy out these days. Everything takes a setup pitch for a setup pitch and if that third offering gets fouled off, he has to setup his setup for his putout pitch yet again.
These are grueling battles for him up there. But at least he's finally winning most of them. He said he'd adjust when the batters told him he needed to and it appears he has. He's not going to be a 220 inning workhorse anymore - he's going to give you 6, maybe 7 gritty as hell innings and hope that he makes enough big pitches on any given day to survive the outing.

This offensive is killing them. They are not getting shut down by good pitching, they're getting shut down by everyone.

At least he isn't hitting 3rd, but Molina should not hit 5th either.
Given Carpenter's BOP history, I would just go ahead and swap him and Fowler and see if that doesn't get him going.

Molina makes up for his lack of power by also having no speed.
He's a truly bad offensive player...and he's batting in the middle of the order. And the sorry truth is that he has as good a claim for it based on raw performance as anyone on the roster.
But hey, I'm sure it'll come around if Matheny just really really wants it to.

Piscotty is tied for the league lead in caught stealings with 5.
He has 1 successful steal attempt.
Broxton and Margot (who he's tied with) have 10 and 5 respectively.
Even bad baserunners like Margot manage to make Piscotty look spectacularly inept...

Diaz is just awful lately. And getting worse.
He can't even put wood on the crap he's swinging at now.

Waino snapped off a hell of a curve to get Utley swinging on 2-2.

I am pretty sure the last CS was a failed hit and run and the pitch was just impossible to put into play.
Cards need to accept that Diaz might not be an everyday player. He's been awful this year and should not be starting as much as he is.
And now MM spends Garcia to get Peralta up with a man on first and 2 out. Should have just let Wainwright hit. Instead he spends two guys.

It's a damn miracle these guys are .500 right now, and will still be damn close after this tough stretch.
Good starting pitching makes managers look smarter than they are.

Brandon Morrow is still alive? He just made Pham look ridiculous.
The only SP,RP I've ever had.

It was one of those deals where I saw him pitch once and thought "closer." Feels good when those guys get the job. Good thing saves are nerfed now that I have 5 closers.
Any time Adrian Gonzalez is walking back to the dugout bitching is a great moment for this baseball fan.

Boo hoo hoo hoo Adrian.

The only difference between Pham and Grixhuk is the color of their skin. They have almost te exact same skill set and holes in their game.

Man, Oh put Grandal in the rockin' chair right there. Grandal never could get the velocity figured out. Damn nice pitch sequencing by Molina. The execution wasn't great (Oh hung that change pretty badly), but Grandal coming off the bench and just getting in the flow of the game just couldn't get him timed.

That's a winner. Nice salvage of a split after two very bad games.

It's really incredible how Waino has righted the ship. He looked DONE in April, but he's turned in 4 consecutive great starts.

Wainwright's ERA is 3.79. How did that happen so fast?
Register or log in to view signatures!
1 ER over his last 26+ innings will do that in May (WHIP is still pretty ghastly, though).
I have to give that guy a ton of credit.
Wainwright: "I'm fine, I'm healthy, I'll find it."
Oz: "You're old, you're washed up. It isn't your fault but it is what it is"
Point, Wainright. He really has reinvented himself out there. There's nothing pretty or efficient about it but he's just gutting through these outings and getting strong results.

Hell, here's the impressive part - look at the slate he's done it against:
Chicago and a bunch of guys that have hit him hard of late.
SF who has given us fits for years.
Colorado AT Colorado.
The Dodgers, who have been playing as well as anyone in the NL recently.
He didn't pick on the poor to get his numbers to respectability. That's as hard a 4-start stretch as he'll face all season and he aced it.

Wainwright hasn't allowed a HR in his last five starts and opponents have hit .183/.264/.220 (.484).

Its a lot more fun to watch someone with grit and heart battle than it ever was watching the mental midget Jaime Garcia implode after, anything.

With him in track, with Leake pitching phenomenally, CarMart turning filthy, Lynn pretty much dominating until his last game.....think about it Reyes never stuck his arm in the toaster......Oh gets right, throw in Trevor Renaissance, there would be whole series where the other guys might have trouble scoring. Ours would be the most dreaded staff to face.
Freaking Reyes.
