    It's the small things....

Martinez starting this game in RIGHT FIELD

Pham - who is a glove wizard with a cannon for an arm is in LF

    Matheny simply doesn't get this.

Baby steps. I mean, it only took 54 strikeouts in 167 ABs for MM to figure out it's time to sit Grichuk. Really - he's been that guy for us before, he'll be that guy again. Like Carp... whoops, Peralta... um...

We can only hope Grichuk is sent to Memphis; it's best for him & certainly best for the Cards. He's been mostly a black hole all season long.

    Must signal a trade coming.

Mo was quoted as saying they chose Palm Beach to get Grichuck unlimited at-bats to solely focus on strike zone judgement!

This is pretty dumb. That "black hole" leads the club in extra base hits.

I will never understand why he's held to a different standard than any other player. They're going to end up getting rid of him and regret it.

    My ass.

They don't know how to fix him. They don't know how to fix any hitter that's struggling. That a coaching problem and an organizational weakness, and this kind of crap costs them games at the major league level. All of the stars on this team are hitting .200, what is the coaching staff doing to fix this?

Now I know Matheny, Bell, and Mabry were all superstars at the dish so certainly none of the blame could fall on them.

His trip to Memphis last year did a world of good.

Matheny was the best outer-half slider hitter I've ever seen.

All the guys show up here ready to play, take good swings, play credible defense. I think the better coaching may be a level down.

    What double-standard? He's slashing .222/.276/.377. 7% BB rate vs. 30% (!) K rate. That's poor.
No player on the 2017 squad has gotten nearly as much PT while performing as poorly.
The only 2 worse position players are the backup catcher and Peralta, who has only played 1/4 as much as Grichuk.
Grichuk wasn't that much better last year, either, to hope for a huge pendulum swing back. .240 AVG, .289 OBP. More power (.480 SLG), but same awful K:BB ratio.
You can't have a .280 OBP in the majors unless you're a gold-glover at a premium defensive position.

Meanwhile, we're getting no hit by Rich Hill today.

What did Mozeliak just say about doing the same thing and expecting different results?

I thought Budda at Memphis was the best hitting coach in the system...

    Matheny simply doesn't get this.

Grichuk wasn't hitting, but was it just me that thought his defense was WAY better than Piscotty in RF? Then when Piscotty came back for a few games he was put back in RF and Grichuk to LF.
Grichuk got playing time because he was actually the only OF that has actually been healthy (physically) all year.

It seems to me Mozeliak is finally getting fed up with this crap too! I only wish we could be lucky enough to have Matheny reassigned at least by the off season as a special assistant to get he and his buddies Mabry and BEll out of the dugout!

I'm hearing that Greer in Single A is the guru that can "fix" Grichuk.

Just a question... if he's that good at "fixing" guys, why in the world doesn't he work on Clark Street?

And, why in the hell does Jon Mabry STILL work on Clark Street?

Piscotty's head has been in the clouds for awhile now, anyone know what's going on with this "personal issue" that had him out through the weekend?

I was wondering the same thing. I wonder if it'll be reported why Piscotty was MIA. It's so hard to keep a secret in today's world......I can't imagine Piscotty & the team keeping this under wraps forever.
