Oz may or may not be on vacation since he has not had a chance to do this I will attempt to pick it up for him.....

    Code:
    1. Guinea Pirates 5698 516 -
    2. Green Eggs & HAMilton 5621 637 77
    3. Hutchs Hedgehogs 5372 676 326
    4. Tennessee Jeds 5220 654 478
    5. Sonic Underachievers 5163 517 535
    6. High Cards Cards 5144 618 554
    7. Smitty's Lumber Co. 5074 489 624
    8. McCann's Marmots 4615 511 1083
    9. Jobu Needs a Refill 4499 548 1199
    10. Blessed with Grace 4186 412 1512

    Standings for split section:

    Hutch
    WW
    row
    HC
    RBF
    Sonic
    Oz
    LOB
    Smitty
    24

And so the Hutch train continues up the track closer and closer. WW had a great split also so his team is starting to get back into it. Oz continues to hold on to his lead though he did not have that good of a split. But his lead is larger than it looks since I used up some valuable innings from my pitchers. You could say that Hutch may even be ahead of me because of that. HC also made a move upwards as Sonic dropped down a little. It's going to be a rough ride going forward, Oz is in control......can he hold on??

Thanks, Row. I was on a motorcycle trip through Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and the Dakotas. Could occasionally do phone checks but that was it.

Yeah, Hutch is gonna win this damn thing, isn't he? I figured I'd really have to crater for anyone but you to run me down and sure enough, that's exactly what my squad has spent the last 3 weeks since the AS break doing. Pitching has gone to hell, my outfield is suddenly hot garbage. And Hutch is on fire in his own right. Hell, I've even left the door open for WW at this point.

I'll try to get back on top of it tomorrow.

Going on that ride with my dad and a bunch of his riding buddies, it kinda felt that way sometimes. Apart from the fact that I was the only guy in the group that didn't have 100,000 miles on a bike to his credit. Those fellas could fly.

In either event, as a man of my word, even though my team !@#$ing sucks right now, I suppose I'll post a damn split.

    Split Period Ranks:

    Oz
    Tie: Hutch and Row
    High Card
    WW
    RBF
    Smitty
    24
    LOB
    Sonic

Off week for most teams, really. My week was pretty much crap, but one good day was enough to give me the top spot in the split because everyone else was fairly mediocre. Hutch got a couple of arms back and there didn't seem to be much in the way of significant injuries. Even the trades were largely lateral (Sanchez still blows, Greinke's move to a better team is off-set by the AL). Mostly this split was 5 days of treading water.

With about 9 weeks left, it's still a dogfight.

You had the best week in the league, and you lead by almost 200 points, considering IP.
You complain a lot for a 1st-place team on an elite pace.

you guys are basically even on IP...so I'm not sure why he's whining so much. Row is almost at +50 so that largely explains his place in the standings, or at least his closeness to OZ and distance from Hutch. That will evaporate.

There is still time for either team to catch Oz, but currently it looks like a race more for 2nd than 1st.

Totally agree. I am in third as far as I am concerned. My IP has me way behind.

Well Row, fortunately for you I have 2 reliable starters on my team at the moment with Darvish being due for an implosion tonight and Sale experiencing a 'dead arm' (lovely).

I've watched the IP this season and I've noticed that I'd much rather have the lead than the buffer. Every time I start to try to use those innings up a little to close the gap, invariably I get diminishing returns on them.

I wouldn't worry as much about that IP limit as you are. I'd worry a hell of a lot more about the fact that Hutch has come out of his slumber. Cutting 200 points into my lead in 3 weeks as well as closing the gap on you by about 100.

Guy's charging hard and he doesn't even have Batista.

Injuries are always a factor. IIRC you won a title because I lost Halladay for the last month of the season, and that alone was all it took in a competitive race. a lot can happen the last 2 months. managing those IP to try and maximize the matchups is the bitch. April and September are the hardest to decipher.

The last few weeks I have tried to hold off on my "IP", but then I look at a matchup and dang if I can't stop myself from putting in a starter. I just don't want to lose too much contact with Oz and Hutch. Like tonight I was going to go starter-less, then I look at it and bam...I put in Gallardo because how in the world is the punchless Stros going to beat him? I bet it bites me. RBF is right, September may be the month that we all look back and see where the cookie crumbled.....

any pitcher vs the stros is a good play.

The only thing about getting ahead in the IP is getting ahead in the standings and making your competition make the most of his.

Yu Darvish is Japanese for Oliver Perez.

That guy implodes more easily than any pitcher I've ever seen. He's literally only ever 1 batter away from walking 5 guys and getting his head kicked in.

I really kinda hate owning this guy.

With Yahoo saying that 108 games played at a position puts you on pace to finish with 0 games in hand, it would appear that Yahoo believes that 108 games is how many games an average team should have played by now.

That being the case, as of today we are officially at the 2/3 point of the season. With just a hair over 8 weeks left to go, here are the splits for the week of August 6, 2012.

    Code:
    1. Guinea Pirates 6408 381 -
    2. GreenEggs & HAMilton 6219 276 189
    3. Hutchs Hedgehogs 6085 391 323
    4. Tennessee Jeds 5879 360 529
    5. High Cards Cards 5833 376 575
    6. Sonic Underachievers 5743 352 665
    7. Smitty`s Lumber Co. 5624 272 784
    8. Jobu Needs A Refill 5229 439 1179
    9. McCann's Marmots 5213 346 1195
    10. Blessed with Grace 4763 310 1645
    Split Ranks:

    RBF (I kid you not)
    Hutch
    Oz
    HC
    WW
    Sonic
    LOB
    24
    Row
    Smitty

Man, that seems like a really strong week for everyone. RBF had one of the best single weeks anyone's had this season if my math was right. A 350 point week puts a team on pace for a 9500 point season and we had 70% of the league challenge that number this week.

Not quite a legitimate stretch drive yet (we're a month away still), but certainly close enough to start score-board watching.

    Boom mothereffers!

I finish 1st for at least a week!

It's what 3 legit closers plus 2 front line starters do for a team. Picking up Timmy who has been lights out since I traded for him has been huge. Plus Moore has been solid. That's prolly all pitching or 90%.

With a hair over 7 weeks left in the season, our splits on the week of August 13 are as follows:

    Code:
    1. Guinea Pirates 6828 420 -
    2. GreenEggs & HAMilton 6596 377 232
    3. Hutchs Hedgehogs 6434 349 394
    4. Tennessee Jeds 6320 441 508
    5. High Cards Cards 6117 284 711
    6. Sonic Underachievers 5966 223 862
    7. Smitty`s Lumber Co. 5914 290 914
    8. Jobu Needs A Refill 5631 402 1197
    9. McCann's Marmots 5574 361 1254
    10. Blessed with Grace 5060 297 1768

    WW
    Oz
    RBF
    Row
    LOB
    Hutch
    24
    HC
    Smitty
    Sonic

That's a hellacious week from WW and it really should have been better but/for the fact that he decided not to start Capuano for his stellar outing. I question if he has the time to catch up (we're talking nearly 70 pts/wk), but he's certainly charging hard. RBF put up his second straight very strong week. His pitching has really come together for him and ultimately I'd be interested to see how his total splits are from August forward. It wouldn't shock me if he overtook Sonic and Smitty by year's end and its certainly not out of the question for him to lead the August-September run. Hutch bled off some points but built up a couple of starts so ultimately it was probably about a wash.

I can live with the status quo...

Still too angry at Zack Greinke to do the math.

    Last week's splits:

    Hutch: Eleventy Billion
    Everyone else: Less

Die in a fire, Greinke. Pussy.

I may convince myself to go through and clean this up, but it should be posted for posterity sake if nothing else.

Hutch continues to thunder down the homestretch like he's !@#$ing Secretariat. I joked awhile ago that Hutch would win the thing easily if he could continue putting up a 12K point clip for the last 2 months...well that's exactly what he's done for the last 30 days.

I can't even be that mad. My team's in a bit of a free-fall at the moment, but Hutch's is a goddamn wrecking ball. All I can really do is stand in awe here and hope to hold him off.

Sorry Row - but you're dead, buddy.

I'll finish up the splits later tonight, but I figure I should post this if for no other reason than to get my last taste of superiority.

Hutch, the run you're on right now is filthy. Every night I think "Okay, now he'll slow down a bit"...then you throw up 38 points on offense, 2 saves and a 32 point start. It's death through 1,000 papercuts. Every time I have a good night...you have a slightly better one. That damn team of yours is just relentless - I've gotta tip my cap.

I figure your April and May were about like my July and August. Your August has been about like my June. So here we are in September with essentially a tie; makes sense. Unfortunately you're freakin' molten hot right now.

    Rankings for the week:

    Hutch
Sonic (real nice week after a slow month)
    WW
    Row
    Oz
    Smitty
    RBF
    HC
    24
    LOB

Hutch, the run you're on right now is filthy. Every night I think "Okay, now he'll slow down a bit"...then you throw up 38 points on offense, 2 saves and a 32 point start. It's death through 1,000 papercuts. Every time I have a good night...you have a slightly better one. That damn team of yours is just relentless - I've gotta tip my cap.

Maybe. Or it might be my high-water mark. With innings, you're still about 100 points ahead.

Call this league "Michael Vick's House", 'cause we've got a dogfight.
He's still well in the lead, though, with innings considered.

Managed to hold you off for another week.

And c'mon, RBF - I made a TON of attempts to get a starter out of you. And I spent most of the season trying to get Hanley traded for a SP but couldn't get even a nibble.

I knew I was a starter short (hell, I'm at least two starters short, to be honest), but I just couldn't get a deal done without giving up Heyward or Lawrie, both of whom were being relied on as starters.

Ultimately I'm not losing because of starting pitching anyway - I'm losing because my offense has spent a month struggling to clip 20 points/day. The collapse of Beltran and Wright to go with Melky's suspension ended up costing me about 6 points/day. Hutch has a really nicely assembled offense; low K's, high BBs and speed to bail him out on days that he's not getting HRs. Unless my high-end veterans come back to life, I can't keep holding off that avalanche (especially with the fact that he's put up a 20 save edge on me over the last month).

My recollection is that you wanted to send me Matt Harrison for Dylan Bundy.

Yeah - that wasn't happening. The only other deal with Bundy in it also had me sending you Sale, you might recall.

At the trade deadline I was projected to go 20 innings over, Ben Sheets and Chad Billingsley had been strong and Liriano had just been traded to a first place team. Oh, and Morrow wasn't even pitching yet, IIRC.

There's nothing worse than a pile of injuries/ineffectiveness in August. The deadline gets to you quickly and you just don't know what you need.

I was surprised at how few folks came looking for Bundy (and by "how few" I mean "nobody but RBF"). I've shown a willingness to trade guys like that in the past but just could not get any interest drummed up. Ultimately I think I just did a bad job of gauging the trade market and timed some slumps (and suspensions) very poorly.

What sux is how few true WW adds there are in yahoo.

Guys I'd been watching like manny were available all season. I just waited too long to add him. Yahoo adds...not much to be excited for. Ugh

And with 12 games left we have a dead tie at the top of the standings.

I have a few more outs than Hutch, but a nominal amount really. In the end the bats are going to decide this one, I fear.

Every time I think "Today will be the biggest day of the year" one of us does something the next day to pretty much completely undo that.

So here we are with yet another "biggest day of the year" coming up. I have 3 SPs going tonight to Hutch's 2, but with an extra 6 innings in my pocket. So by the end of the night tonight there's a pretty good chance that Hutch and I will be even in innings. If I don't build a buffer here, I'm probably toast.

    Code:
    1. Strongbad's Closers 8914 54 - 8 106
    2. Hutchs Hedgehogs 8903 28 11 3 122
    3. GreenEggs & HAMilton 8685 67 229 7 17

    5. Sonic Underachievers 8164 30 750 2 19
    6. Smitty`s Lumber Co. 8082 20 832 9 100
    7. High Cards Cards 7966 29 948 10 50
    8. McCann's Marmots 7475 26 1439 6 22
    9. Jobu Needs A Refill 7312 39 1602 1 53

    I think I'm boned.

I'm losing my infielders pretty soon due to start limits and I couldn't buy a !@#$ing save right now (meanwhile Hutch is good for 2/day).

My only shot is that Hutch has probably 4 starts left to my 6. His probables:

    Lohse vs. Wash (Possible win)
    CC vs. Boston (likely win)
    Hamels vs. Miami (Win)
    JJ vs. NYM (Win)

That's 3 damn tasty matchups for him and one that's certainly doable.

I have Darvish vs. Greinke - kick. in. the. balls. Gotta love Darvish getting scratched from that last start so he can get lined up against the other elite SP on my squad. !@#$

    Pettite vs. Tor (60/40)
Sale vs. TB (Should be 60/40, but the Sox are in freefall)
    Price vs. CWS (60/40)
    Sanchez vs. Twins (3/2)

Oh it'll probably stay tight, but I'm thinking Hutch by 35.

Well, here comes the final series and we're essentially tied:

    Code:
    1. Hutchs Hedgehogs 9292 51 - 3 132
    2. Strongbad's Closers 9289 113 3 8 118
    3. GreenEggs & HAMilton 8922 50 370 7 17
    4. Tennessee Jeds 8694 61 598 5 38
    5. Smitty`s Lumber Co. 8449 75 843 9 100
    6. Sonic Underachievers 8386 74 906 2 19
    7. High Cards Cards 8239 23 1053 10 52
    8. McCann's Marmots 7712 37 1580 6 22
    9. Jobu Needs A Refill 7544 54 1748 1 53
    10. Blessed with Grace 6954 47 2338 4 15
It's not quite a tie as Hutch gets a start today that I won't get and it's CC. He also has another 30 or so ABs that I'm not going to get because of games started limits. I definitely have an uphill climb but it's not impossible.

Hutch made a perfect call on Lohse vs. Estrada. I have to tip my cap there as I loved that Estrada start and didn't think he'd have the hutzpah to bench Lohse after as well as Lohse has done for him. Great call.

I'm frustrated I couldn't get to my team yesterday. I had a 12 point slipup when I couldn't get Ruiz active for Santana and didn't get Andrus active for a double-header kill-off of my SS position (once Scutaro was benched). I couldn't get my app to work from the Arrowhead parking lot. Figures - the Chiefs screwed me every which way last weekend.

Hutch - I'm hoping your boys blow a couple saves for me tonight...though I'm not sure why I should expect it.

I was actually in KC, too, visiting friends. Being away cost me a few points yesterday.

I fear that, by volume, innings runout day is going to determine this thing, and these things have generally not worked out for me this year.

I waited until this morning to decide how I was going to play it. I saw you picked up Zito and exhaled a bit - I wanted an extra couple of starts out of my OFers so I didn't blow out the roster on Sunday. I really thought you'd go ripping through Tuesday starters and leave me with the chaff. When you only grabbed Zito I knew you were taking Tuesday instead of going with Johnson and the innings runout Monday (kinda hoped you'd use a couple more RP innings and force your hand there, but you're sitting perfect at 10 IP; never expected you to sit Hamels though, guy's been nails).

That said, even the 'wheat' is pretty much chaff in that pool. I just started taking HR swings against your starters, monitoring home/road splits and hoping for the best.

I still think you have to be favored, but I have a punchers chance and that's good enough for me.

And in one final act of hideously bad managing, I went out after softball last night, went to a bar afterwards, came home and fell asleep rather than even bother checking to see if any of my starters got scratched.

    Of course they did.

And of course Hutch picked up Phelps, who has the most guaranteed W in baseball history today going against the Red Sox, you have to be considered the worst team presently playing in baseball, Rockies, Astros and Cubs included.

    !@#$. !@#$, !@#$, !@#$, !@#$.

    Idiot.

Awesome 140-point day by Smitty yesterday to blow it out in style, and secure a top-half finish.

I love how hard that guy fights for position every year, all year, right to the finish line. Wish the rest of the league cared that much after May...

I wish my work didn't cockblock both BOTB and Yahoo Fantasy, you can only do so much from a phone.

I lost starts to scratches all goddamn year because I couldn't check and almost every game is underway by the time I get home. I need a new plan next year.

Rolled all of my starters on Sunday not expecting them to go over 18 innings so I could stream the next day...and finished with 18.1 innings on Sunday and ****ed myself.

The Yahoo baseball app on my android phone is good for watching scoring & swapping people off the bench into starts, but bad for planning/evaluating roster moves, etc.

Don't worry. With my luck, you'll get saves for all the SPs slots you feel you effed up and missed.

I'm clearly not referring to the people going for the championship. And High Card & RBF have been fairly active, though not as much as Smitty.

But Smitty made 100 moves to fight for 5th place. That's more than the 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th teams put together. And he's pretty much the only person who was even trying to trade at the deadline. I had 6 closers, and people with big holes didn't even make an offer. I'm not faulting anyone for not accepting any trade offer. But you can be damned sure if that was MY closer hole, I'd have been trying 5 offers to 5 owners all day every day testing different permutations of deals until one worked.

Smitty clearly works hard, even when not in the title chase. He has been doing it for years. If you're making this a zero-sum situation, and a complement to one person is a slap to another, then so be it.

Welp - I needed absolutely everything to break right for me today and with that bomb from Ibanez leading to a BS from Bailey and getting Phelps off the hook for the L, I'm probably dead in the water. Damn.

On a related note - **** you very much, Andrew Bailey. Every single time I needed you I could count on you to be hurt and/or ineffective. You are an *******.

We've still got 2 opposing SP matchups. Nothing's near done yet.
