    Quasi-weekly update - 2012.

There have been times that I've been curious how the league has gone over the course of a season or even a month or two. We really don't have a good way to do that, so I figured I'd give this a try. I'll try to get one of these in here every week or so (probably when I do a lineup setting for my weekly league).

    EDIT:

Well crap, this is a subforum so we can't post images. RBF - any way we can get the settings for our subforum changed so we can just put a screen capture of the standings?

I don't have an answer to your problem but I really like the idea. I've been curious what the monthly splits have been for various places over the past few seasons.

This would be a good way to do that.

I can not change it. Our 2 site mods would have to change it.

This years closers have been crazy. You think you have one and then you don't and then you do, then you might.

I knew I had no chance at the newest quasi-closer for the Jays when I had very limited access WED. Of course he was snapped up before noon that day.

I had an SP/RP for 36 glorious hours. In that time he was brought in with 2 men on in the 8th inning for an attempted 6 inning save, gave up 0 ER and still took a BS.

Now he's getting an MRI and 24 hours later the news isn't out yet (which is never a good thing).

    Closers suck.

I hear they are now going with a committee, between 3 guys. Crap, it's like having a running back in a Shanahan offense.

This makes no ****ing sense to me. First he goes and names a rookie lefty that nobody considered a closer the closer. He failed like everyone predicted. Then he's trying to put Sale into the role..all the while the best guy for the job is seemingly hated by ventura. Why does he hate Reed so much? Unbelievable. He doing the best he can to outsmart himself. You can name a no name guy a closer but not Reed when he's been the best option all along??? **** you Robin! you dick.

I sent an Email to HC in his moderator gear but got no response. Guess I'll have to deal with typing it in.

And here are this week's splits; first column total points, 2nd column being points change from last split and third being points back:

Standings as of Monday, May 14 (week 7)

    10. Jobu Needs A Refill 1658 303 343
I'm just figuring out that code tag, so bear with me. Ultimately I may be too lazy to do this every week but such is life - you'll survive without it.

    Hello Oz,

Sorry I don't check my messages in the mod PM's, if anyone needs to contact me they can through my regular PM's. The only time I sign is as the mod is if I see something I need to address when I am sighned in as HC. So not very often.

With that being said I couldn't help ya anyway, all I can do is make changes to the main board.

Gotta talk to Mike or Scott about the other stuff.

I assume Scott is Judge, would Mike be GoCards?

I can never remember who the Mods are these days. In either event, with the coding thing working alright, I can actually put in a real 'split' for the previous week and I think I like that a little better. It just takes a little more time.

I'll worry about it if I get tired of doing the math. Thankya, sir.

Actually and Technically I am the only Mod as far as I know. Yes Scott is Judge and Mike is IndianaMIke, they are Administrators. They do Moderate the other boards at times.

You haven't logged onto the Yahoo site for 10 days.

First off, I hope everything is ok.

    Thumbs up

This is cool, I like this.

Wish my innings weren't so high, but at least most starters are healthy right now. A departure from last year when Bartolo Colon was my ace for two months.

    Stop getting saves, dick.

You've doubled me up in SV points and I'm still within spitting distance of you despite having about 70 fewer innings pitched. If you could just quit getting 2 saves every night, I could go ahead and ignore you, figure out how the hell to fix my streaky as hell OF and wobbly SP, then go after WW while waiting for Hutch's team to finally get it's shit together and try to chase us down from the rear (all while wondering how the hell Row's team isn't doing better than it is).

I think my favorite element of it will be the weekly(ish) splits. Every year a team just slowly creeps up on folks and next thing you know someone's moved from 7th to 2nd without anyone really noticing it. I believe you were that guy last season, Hutch is certainly looking to be that guy this season. But no matter who it is, it should be far less of a surprise when we can see how those splits are coming down.

I was actually dead last after the all-star break last year and climbed to 2nd before slipping behind s.f. on the last day.

man if Robertson didn't get hurt I'd have 3 closers! I guess I'll just wait for Hernandez to take over for putz. That time should be nearing...which will help out everyone fighting Sonic.

I'll try to ratchet this back towards Mondays again this week...

Standings and Splits as of Tuesday, May 29 and the unofficial beginning of the summer:

    Code:
    1. Sonic Underachievers 2798 261 -
    2. Guinea Pirates 2768 246 30
    3. Tennessee Jeds 2754 189 44
    4. GreenEggs & HAMilton 2746 353 52
    5. Smitty`s Lumber Co. 2603 251 195
    6. Hutchs Hedgehogs 2583 283 215
    7. McCann's Marmots 2483 286 315
    8. High Cards Cards 2439 301 359
    9. Jobu Needs A Refill 2284 172 514
    10. The Flying Shirtli 2264 187 534
    Rankings over the split period:

Row (yes, I had to recalculate to make sure it wasn't a typo; nice week sir)
    HC
    LOB
    Hutch
    Sonic
    Smitty
    Oz
    WW
    Shirtless
    RBF

Shirtless has now not checked in since May 12. It's not a head to head league, so if we leave the team dead, the only thing it does to competitive balance is preclude trades with one team. That's hardly catastrophic. But at some point we probably need to figure out a contingency option.

I was starting to feel better about my chances, then I watch my best pitcher go down with back injury last night. Hope Wainer and Santana's lastest success continues.

Thanks again Oz for doing these splits on a weekly basis, and thanks for your compliment. You know a blind team like mine gets lucky once a decade, this might be my time.

On shirtless being missing in action, I for one don't like it. And if he continues to be incognito we need to have someone step in and take over. I do hope it is nothing serious that has prohibited him from being around though.

The same noob who was lecturing us on how the league should be scored? Next year, you guys should have a rule requiring people to be in the league for 6 months before voting on rule changes.

That's exactly what I said at the time of his lecturing. Its frustrating to have someone blatantly check out. I say give him to the all-star break.

The general caveats related to him being away for a serious reason obviously apply.

And we're back to Mondays. As of approximately 1/3 of the way through the season, here we are:

    Code:
    1. Guinea Pirates 3128 360 -

    Row
    HC
    Hutch
    RBF
    LOB
    Sonic
    WW
    Shirtless

Man, WW took it in the shorts a bit this week. Giving up almost 200 pts to the leaders when you have a pretty good team is a rare thing indeed. HC refuses to die and Hutch just keeps churning. Row with another strong week, just not quite enough to hold the pole (thank you, Chris Sale).

Forgot my splits last week - my bad.

Here they are for the week of June 18 (week 12), approximately 40% of the way through the season

    Code:
    1. Guinea Pirates 3892 764 -
    2. GreenEggs & HAMilton 3818 747 74
    3. Sonic Underachievers 3737 715 155
    4. Smitty`s Lumber Co. 3633 704 259
    5. Tennessee Jeds 3538 608 354
    6. Hutchs Hedgehogs 3494 600 398
    7. High Cards Cards 3398 641 494
    8. McCann's Marmots 3217 486 675
    9. Jobu Needs A Refill 3136 589 756
    10. Blessed with Grace 2972 534 920
Rankings for the 2 week period:

    Oz
    Row
    Sonic
    Smitty
    HC
    WW
    RBF
    Hutch
    24
    LOB

Turns out Shirtless's team was only 1/2 as lousy as the record indicates; all it needed was someone paying attention to move up the splits a little bit, or at least not get blown out of them. The top 4 teams all had a strong split period so it's created a bit of distance there, but nothing a bad week or two won't close up in a hurry (Personally, I'm looking at you, Jason Motte...). LOB had a pretty rough couple of weeks; just one of those seasons it seems.

    Merrily we roll along...

This season is what could of been. To think I ended up with Berkmange and Marmol vs guys I could of had.

I wish I could post the Picard face palm on myself.

Screw you Marmol and the Cubs team you play for.

We're still not even on the Billingsley for Shields trade...

@#$%ing move could be the reason I don't win this thing this season and it kept me out of 2nd last year.

It's the gift that keeps on giving...

Yeah, you're probably right but Hutch and I are now square. Marmol for the flying Hawaiian. What the hell was I thinking? The guy I could of had, had just had a horrible blown save...I wasn't thinking.

I compounded the horrible deal by trading then depth (Perkins) for Berkmange and then proceed to lose 2 closers to injury/ failure at role. I think I killed my chances right there. Ugh.

The problem wasn't trading Capps/Perkins, but for selecting Berkman when I offered either Berkman or Beltran.

So instead of Perez and Beltran, you ended up with Marmol and...well nothing, because Berkman's back on my roster now. Yeah - that's a couple of tough calls.

I once gave Sonic Ryan Braun instead of Alex Gordon....oops.

Splits for the week of June 25 - week 13 (1 week short of basically halfway).

    Code:
    1. Guinea Pirates 4320 428 -
    2. GreenEggs & HAMilton 4240 422 80
    3. Smitty`s Lumber Co. 3970 337 350
    4. Sonic Underachievers 3967 230 353
    5. Hutchs Hedgehogs 3959 465 361
    6. Tennessee Jeds 3942 404 378
    7. High Cards Cards 3776 378 544
    8. McCann's Marmots 3506 289 814
    9. Jobu Needs A Refill 3342 206 978
    10. Blessed with Grace 3088 116 1232
    Split period ranks:

    Hutch
    Oz
    Row
    WW
    HC
    Smitty
    LOB
    Sonic
    RBF
    24

There he is...was waiting for that charge from Hutch. Biting 50 points into the lead without burning any innings buffer is pretty damn impressive. That said - I'll take it. Pro-rate that week over a season and Hutch would put up 12K points. If you can get to 12K Hutch - I'd say you have a pretty good shot....

Only losing 40 points to Hutch last week is almost as encouraging as only gaining 6 on Row is irritating. Dammit, Row - just go away already. And with a massive weekend, WW kept himself on life-support after looking like his slow fade was going to continue.

Speaking of slow-fades, can we just euthanize SF's team? Good lord, what a mess.

    Last week 'till the mid-point.

And so comes the mathematical halfway point (or so near as to make no difference). It will really be half-way on Wednesday, but I'm trying to keep us on Mondays so the splits remain meaningful and so I can !@#$ around for a few minutes before actually working on Monday mornings.

    Code:
    1. Guinea Pirates 4794 474
    2. GreenEggs & HAMilton 4649 409 145
    3. Sonic Underachievers 4348 381 446
    3. Hutchs Hedgehogs 4348 389 446
    5. Smitty`s Lumber Co. 4266 296 528
    6. Tennessee Jeds 4222 280 572
    7. High Cards Cards 4126 350 668
    8. McCann's Marmots 3801 295 993
    9. Jobu Needs A Refill 3640 298 1154
    10. Blessed with Grace 3476 388 1318
    Split period ranks:

    Oz
    Row
    Hutch
24 (still wonder how this team would've done with competent mgmt all year)
    Sonic
    HC
    RBF
    Smitty
    LOB
    WW

Man, everytime WW starts to get some traction, he loses it. Much tighter grouping this week than most; a low of 280 appears to be the best we've done and a majority of the league was above 350. I'll be curious to see if the points go up or down as the season progresses. As parks heat up, will the damage done to SPs be offset by the increases in offense production? I tend to think that better pitchers (i.e. the fantasy relevant ones) can lessen the damage caused by heat more than bad pitchers, meanwhile good hitters (again, the fantasy relevant ones) are better able to take advantage of it. On balance, I would think point totals would go up a little over the last 13 weeks.

    We shall see.

It's the best offensive half I can remember having (in relation to the league). These guys just spent the entire month of June hitting the ever-living !@#$ out of the ball. I had 2,000 point month without any of my relievers doing a damn thing. Jansen hasn't had a save in 2 weeks.

They offense almost has to regress a bit and I'll have to find a way to get some innings from 5 and 6 in my staff (while hoping that my relievers get more opps and Aceves/Myers lose their jobs). Hutch has been smart with his innings and I've not been able to shake free of you. Sonic always has something in reserve and Smitty seems to have more talent than he's had results thus far.

If the bats have another month like they did in June, I'd be pretty excited about my chances, but there's a hell of a lot of time left and I have a couple of pretty sketchy major contributors (Melky, the walking implosion that is Yu Darvish, Motte's stubborn ass, Beltran's knees, etc...).

And the splits as of the 'unofficial' halfway point. As of the AS Break, the numbers are:

    Code:
    1. Guinea Pirates 5182 388 -
    2. GreenEggs & HAMilton 4984 335 198
    3. Hutchs Hedgehogs 4696 348 486
    4. Sonic Underachievers 4646 298 536
    5. Smitty`s Lumber Co. 4585 319 597
    6. Tennessee Jeds 4566 344 616
    7. High Cards Cards 4526 400 656
    8. McCann's Marmots 4104 303 1078
    9. Jobu Needs A Refill 3951 311 1231
    10. Blessed with Grace 3774 298 1408
    Split period rankings

    High Card
    Oz
    Hutch
    WW
    Row
    Smitty
    RBF
    LOB
    Sonic
    24

Sort of a Pyrrhic week for me - I expanded my lead but burned a bunch of my innings cushion on Row in so doing. The offense is starting to regress a little bit and had 4 sub-standard days last week. HC with probably his best week of the year so far; it's a start but time's really starting to tick away on anyone south of Sonic in the standings right now.

Row swaps out a struggling 2 time Cy winner for a steady point producer on a highly talented offensive team. He's making a push for a title and sitting w/ a SP/RP closer.

will be interesting to see how that deal and the season shakes out. He doesn't have the top notch starters Oz or others have. He needs Dickey and Lynn to continue their 1st half success and needs Kennedy to have a little more luck and for Gallarrdo to pick it up a notch or 2. But his closer situation has stabilized unlike earlier in the season. having 4 helps make up for problems in other areas. He should get Kent back for a late season push.

Yeah, but he could've just grabbed Nova off waivers. Nova has the same advantages that Harrison has, but appears to have figured out how to strike people out. The curve he was throwing against Boston last night was a legit power-curve that I hadn't seen from him in the past. The Harrison trade still made sense for him, but I still don't know that I trust him. K-Rates that low during that 6 week late-summer stretch in Arlington don't tend to have happy endings.

I want Bailey back in the worst way if for no other reason than it gets Aceves out of that SP/RP chair. I probably won't even start him, I'm just tired of watching Row get a spare save every 3 days. Unfortunately it looks like he's still at least 3 weeks away. I'd also be a pretty big fan of Liriano getting traded to Atlanta, but that appears to be less and less likely.

Eh, if Berkman can come back healthy and give me that extra OFer I need to survive the slumps that Heyward and Bruce are prone to, I'll be in pretty solid shape. I just need the closers that I do have to get a few more opportunities. Kemp coming back could actually help me as much as Row if it means that the Dodgers start winning again.
